Dear Alicia,
Thank you for the time and effort you gave in seeking the Newton Teachers Association endorsement for the Ward 6 at large City Council seat. Candidates for office typically bring a significant history of civic involvement, so we take pride in conducting a thorough review of each candidate, with educators from every Newton school participating in the process.
We thank you for your commitment to the Newton Public Schools and congratulate you on earning this endorsement. The following paragraph was sent to the NTA membership today outlining the strengths we believe you bring to your candidacy:
Alicia Bowman has been an activist in Newton for many years and has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Newton Public Schools through her work as PTO president, on the PTO council, and the Safe Routes to School Task Force.
In addition, she is committed to upgrading school buildings so they meet the educational needs of students and provide for environmentally sustainable designs. Alicia is willing to take on new challenges and initiatives and puts in the time, often years, to bring initiatives to fruition.
She has a demonstrated commitment to environmental issues and believes a focus on the environment must be an integral part of city council decisions in order to respond to the climate crisis.Alicia has expressed strong support for excellent health benefits for city employees and believes that access to excellent healthcare is a ‘fundamental right.’
The Newton Teachers Association wishes you the best in the upcoming election.
Mike Zilles
