Susan Albright, City Council President
Alicia has made an impact from her first day on the Council. She is a leader on important issues such as supporting restaurants during COVID. She brings deep policy knowledge and she’s always looking for ways to improve our city. There’s no problem Alicia is unwilling to take on.
Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus
MWPC is proud to endorse Alicia Bowman for Newton City Council At-Large. We need bold leaders like Alicia Bowman who not only embody their community’s core values, but who recognize that transforming the face of our government is critical. We need more women in office because representation matters. Leading by example matters.
We are confident that Alicia Bowman is a strong leader who will act with care, urgency, and competence as Newton’s City Councilor. A vote for Alicia Bowman is a vote for Newton’s brighter future.
Alicia is a person you can count on, and she gets things done. Newton needs more people like her in public office!
I support Alicia Bowman because she champions affordable housing in Newton which I believe creates a more fair and diverse, welcoming city.
Alicia Bowman believes in and cares for the City of Newton and works tirelessly to help make it a better place for all who live here. She has done a great job in her first term and will continue this work in the future. I support her wholeheartedly.
Alicia Bowman has brought positive energy, good values, professional experience as a consultant, her education and knowledge of Newton’s issues and considerable skills to our City Council. I enthusiastically endorse her for re-election.
I had the pleasure of working with Alicia for several years on the Transportation Advisory Group, on our Mayor’s Transition Team and on improving housing options for our community. She applied what she knew about making our community work better for children and learned what it would take to make our city more accessible for Newton’s fast-growing older population. Alicia is a strategic thinker and works to find solutions to problems even when the solutions aren’t straightforward.
Alicia Bowman applies her intelligence, good sense, and caring to her work on the Newton City Council. I’m pleased to support her re-election.
We need City Councilors like Alicia who understand the importance of new transportation solutions as part of addressing many of the issues facing Newton both economic and quality of life.
Alicia does her homework on the issues and makes good choices about the future of Newton. We’re fortunate to have her on the City Council.
As new-ish residents in Newton, my children and I were almost hit by a car in a dangerous intersection while walking home from school. Alicia helped us navigate the process to advocate for a stop sign at the intersection and ensured our school was able to improve the blue zone drop off area as well. Alicia’s leadership on safe biking and walking is such an asset to our City and I am grateful to know our councilor does so much hands-on work as well, from volunteering time in the community to leadership on beautification efforts like the planters for local restaurants.
Alicia has been an amazing advocate for pedestrians and cyclists. She’s got my vote.
Alicia moved up the learning curve with astonishing speed. She bases her views on in-depth research and reaching out to the community. She is the go-to councilor on so many issues, it’s hard to keep track. We need to keep her on the Council.
Sandra Davidow, Ward 6 resident and member of Newton’s Council on Aging
Alicia cares. She listens. She uses sound judgement. I cannot think of any better qualities than these for any elected official. I strongly support her campaign for re-election.
Ted Hess-Mahan, Former Newton City Councilor
Alicia Bowman has been a champion for affordable and fair housing.
Alicia has an excellent grasp of the issues that come before Newton’s City Council. Her special expertise and ability to advocate on zoning, transportation and waste management helps our leaders to arrive at decisions with the biggest environmental and social equity benefits. She truly understands and gives her all to the implementation of Newton’s Climate Action Plan and other environmental solutions that offer the biggest benefits to our community.
In just one term on the City Council, Alicia has already made a huge impact.
Alicia has done great work for pedestrians in Newton. She also was an outstanding Girl Scout troop leader for 8 years for my daughter.
Alicia Bowman has been a wonderful advocate for progressive policies in the city of Newton. She has brought to the role of city councilor a longstanding commitment to and understanding of transportation and infrastructure issues. She has fought hard to make our city live up to its promise as a community that effectively serves the needs of people of different racial and socioeconomic backgrounds, whether the issue is policing or housing. Newton is a better, more accessible place for the work of this dedicated public servant. I strongly endorse her campaign for reelection.
Lucia Dolan, Ward 6 resident and sustainable transportation advocate
I have been neighbors with Alicia for more than 20 years. Since day one, I have known her to be a tireless and amazingly effective advocate for keeping our community safe. Her knowledge of transportation, from traffic dangers around schools to parking concerns around express bus stops, is unique and vital to the City Council. Alicia is committed to accessible, green transportation that benefits all Newton residents.
We need Alicia’s strong voice on the City Council to speak out for equity, affordable housing and a livable Newton!
Beverly and Tom Droz
Alicia Bowman participates in so many important issues facing the Newton City Council, especially working on environmentally sustainable solutions to be a part of many projects. We need that more than ever!
I consider Alicia a remarkably knowledgeable and diligent councilor who can be relied on for policy making and planning that are designed to make Newton an even better place to live and work.
Doris Ann Sweet
In her first term, Alicia has demonstrated that she is smart, hard-working, and cares deeply about the welfare of Newton residents and our small businesses.
